To raise awareness about the global burden of tuberculosis and encourage efforts to prevent, diagnose, and treat the disease. The day commemorates the discovery of the tuberculosis bacterium by Robert Koch in 1882. The global campaign to end TB is strongly supported by the World Health Organization and the United Nations.
