The UN Designated Schools in India celebrates world soil day

Coimbatore day on 24 November 23 and Coorg day on 26 January 23, celebrated on 5 December 23, World Soil day.

On December 5, 2023, the UN Designated Schools in India celebrated World Soil Day with a cultural exchange meet. The event was attended by school children from SBOAMHSS COIMBATORE and Coorg Public School and PU College, Gonikoppal, who came together on a virtual platform to exchange their cultural variations.
Mrs. Sabural Banu Ibrahim, UN Women Designate and Principal of SBOAMHSS COIMBATORE, welcomed all the participants and introduced the school children. Mrs. Teena Machaiah, Students’ UN Volunteers-India team coordinator, Teacher of Coorg Public School and PU College, Gonikoppal, also greeted and welcomed everyone.

The children from SBOAMHSS, COIMBATORE gave a brief report about Coimbatore and its role in Indian economy growth through effective industrial development such as machinery, textiles, handlooms, food style, life styles, and more. They highlighted the city’s contribution to the Indian economy and how it has become a hub for various industries.
The children from Coorg Public School and PU College, Gonikoppal, in Karnataka state, reciprocated with their traditional values, cuisine, lifestyle, traditional outfits, natural resources, and more. They showcased the rich cultural heritage of their region and how it has evolved over time.

Dr. M Ramachandran, Secretary General of National UN Volunteers-India team and Principal of Coorg Public School and PU College, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to both the children for their participation in the event. Mrs. Teena Machaiah cast a vote of thanks, and Mrs. Malathy coordinated the event.

It was a great opportunity for the children to learn about each other’s cultures and traditions and to appreciate the diversity that India has to offer. The event was a huge success and will go a long way in promoting cultural exchange and understanding among the younger generation.
