World Environment Day Celebration at Schools

Activities
(World Environment Day is observed annually on June 5th. The theme for 2025 is "Combating Plastic Pollution" / #BeatPlasticPollution.)
1.Awareness & Education:
Classroom discussions on pressing environmental issues (e.g., plastic pollution, climate change, deforestation, biodiversity loss).
Talks by environmental experts or local environmental activists (in-person or virtual).
Presentations or documentaries showcasing global environmental challenges and solutions.
Interactive sessions on the "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" principle, particularly focusing on plastic waste.
2.Hands-on Environmental Action:
Tree plantation drive within school premises or a nearby community area.
School or neighborhood clean-up drive, specifically targeting plastic waste.
Setting up or enhancing a school's waste segregation system (bins for paper, plastic, organic waste).
Composting workshops using organic waste from the school canteen or gardens.
Establishing or maintaining a school garden or herbal garden.
3.Creative Expression & Engagement:
Poster-making and slogan-writing competitions on environmental themes, especially "Combating Plastic Pollution."
Art and craft competitions using recycled or upcycled materials.
Essays, poems, or short stories on environmental protection and sustainability.
Skits, street plays, or role-playing activities to convey environmental messages.
Environmental quizzes and games (e.g., "Nature Scavenger Hunt," "Recycling Relay").
4.Promoting Sustainable Habits:
Pledge-taking ceremony for students and staff to adopt eco-friendly practices (e.g., reducing single-use plastic, conserving water and energy).
Workshops on making reusable bags from old clothes/materials.
Demonstrations of eco-friendly alternatives to common plastic items.
"No Power Hour" or "Green Hour" in classrooms to promote energy conservation.
5.Community & Outreach:
Displaying student work (posters, art) in common school areas or local community boards.
Encouraging students to discuss environmental issues with their families and implement eco-friendly habits at home.
Initiating a "Green Challenge" for students to track their eco-friendly actions for a week or month.
6.Sharing Activities and Potential Recognition
Schools are encouraged to share photos and video clips of their World Environment Day activities with UN Volunteers-India via WhatsApp at +91 9944313953.
By sharing your activities, your school may be eligible to receive certificates for participating students and winners from UN Volunteers-India.
