Building on the energy of Day 1, Day 2 of GDG-MUN launched on Friday, 25th October 2024, with anticipation and focus. The day was graced by Dr. Assabah Khan, a Global Peace Ambassador, who attended as a distinguished judge and brought a wealth of insight and inspiration to the event.

The session began with a dynamic recap of Day 1, sparking excitement for what was to come. The anchors provided a structured outline of Day 2’s schedule, setting the stage for a day filled with rigorous debate and collaboration.

The event commenced with the proceedings of the ECO SOC committee, chaired by Ms. Arvin Fatima with Sabeeb Fatima as a Vice-Chair. The Eco-SOC session focused on the agenda of Eradication of Poverty in the Times of Multi-Crisis. Each school delegation was given two minutes to present their respective country’s stance on the agenda. Delegates representing the USA, France China and UK grappled with the intertwined impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, rising inflation and climate changes.

Following these opening speeches, the floor opened for a moderated caucus, where delegates engaged in intense debates and discussions on various aspects of the agenda.
Delegates then moved to the unmoderated caucus, using this opportunity to collaboratively draft resolution papers, wherein the informal collaboration between delegates paved way for innovative ideas, later cooperated into a final resolution.

The event transitioned to the WHO committee session at 11:30 AM, with Ms. Nousheen Hamid  and Ms.Darakshan as Chair and Vice-Chair tackled the complex agenda of dealing with the Aftermaths of the Covid-19 Pandemic and Essential strategies for Long-Term Health System Resilience.

Delegates began with opening statements, using over all  15 minutes to present their perspectives, setting a strong foundation for the moderated caucus that followed. This session was marked by thoughtful exchanges, with each delegate contributing their unique viewpoints on global socio-economic issues.

The unmoderated Caucus saw a vibrant collaboration among delegates, who worked together to draft a resolution that outlined a framework for global health equity and pandemic preparedness and Response Fund to help countries respond effectively to the future health crisis.

Dr. Assabah Khan closed the morning session with an inspiring address, reinforcing the values of diplomacy and peaceful negotiation. She discussed the importance of following UN protocols and maintaining decorum, reminding delegates that peace thrives on respectful, attentive communication.

Dr. Assabah encouraged everyone to nurture their ability to listen and understand diverse perspectives, emphasizing that meaningful change in global diplomacy starts within.
Applauding the efforts of GD Goenka, Srinagar, and all participant schools, Dr. Assabah celebrated the invaluable learning opportunity that GDGMUN offers young leaders. Her words left the delegates inspired and motivated to approach the rest of the event with renewed vigor and a commitment to global diplomacy.
The first session concluded at 12:45 PM, leaving an impression of professionalism, cooperation, and the transformative power of MUN to shape young minds for a globalized world.
