𝐇𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘

The Indian Air Force, fondly known as the ‘Guardians of the Sky,’ was officially established on October 8, 1932. It was a significant milestone in our nation’s journey towards strengthening its defence capabilities. Indian Air Force Day, celebrated every October 8th, commemorates its establishment and pays tribute to the sacrifices and achievements of our soldiers.

At its inception, the Indian Air Force possessed only a limited fleet of biplanes. Still, it has since grown into a formidable force, keeping pace with the rapid advancements in military and aviation technology. A huge credit for this goes to the first chief of air staff of the Indian Air Force, Subroto Mukerjee, for spearheading this process and acquiring new and improved planes, such as the Dassault Mystere, Canberra, Hawker Hunter and the Folland Gnat were all inducted during his tenure.  

Despite its humble beginnings, the Indian Air Force, through its commitment to protecting the Indian air space, has proved itself as one of the best air forces in the world. With state-of-the-art training and the best equipment for their soldiers, the commitment remains unchanged. The Indian Air Force has recently acquired a group of SWARM drones.

The Indian Air Force Day history is a chronicle of courage and resilience. From its involvement in World War II to safeguarding our borders during conflicts and providing vital assistance during natural disasters, the IAF has been at the forefront of national security and humanitarian efforts.
